About Our Family
The Sharp Family have had cattle on the ground since the early 1900's. In 2013, we started the Registered Hereford side of our operation and have since expanded to commercial beef cattle. We are a 4th generation cattle operation that thrives on family, livestock and the land God has blessed us with. We are located in Healy, Kansas, right in the heart of the Midwest.
OUR HISTORY
Cattle have been at the soul of our family for generations, starting as far back as 1886 on John Israel Sharp’s homestead here in Lane County. In 1940, M.B. “Brownie” Sharp bought one of the ranches our cattle call home today. Due to the aftermath of war, the cattle herd was later sold off in 1956, and the ranch was leased out. In 1958, the Sharp Brothers Gerald, Gail, and Mark pursued their new career of Sharp Brothers Seed Company producing native grass, helping the government establish the Conservation Reserve Program. Gail’s son, Dan, grew up in the family business and continues to operate it today alongside his son, Tyler, and daughter, Kiara.

Being a small-town kid with a rancher’s heart, Tyler had a desire to bring the cattle operation back to life. In 2010, that dream came true when an additional ranch was acquired closer to home. The ranch was later blessed with Alex O’Rourke, our ranch manager, as they needed a dedicated employee with years of cattle experience.
The operation started with Registered Herefords later adding commercial cattle to the herd. Tyler and I, Hanna, met, fell in love, and quickly realized we both had a love for cattle and ranching. After marrying, we were blessed with a beautiful baby boy, Kane. Kane has been learning to be a rancher since the day he was born as his daddy took his little hand, and said “I won’t tell you, I’ll show you.” With every year comes changes, struggles, and successes. But our strong work ethic and faith in God continue to keep the heart of the ranch alive and thriving.
Our ranch is truly a family.
